A Commitment of Involvement...
The City Commission of Aventura enacted Ordinance 2001-08, providing for the creation of the Community Services Advisory Board.
The Board consists of seven members who are appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Commission. The Board was created to provide advice and recommendations to the City Commission and staff.
The following matters are within the advisory function of the board:- Stimulate greater public awareness and appreciation of the importance of beautification, recreation and cultural arts in the City.
- Assist in the formulation of special events, recreation activities, senior, youth and cultural programs.
- Provide recommendations on landscaping and beautification projects.
- Promote the sponsorship of cultural arts and special events by community and civic organizations.
- Encourage and facilitate opportunities for City residents to participate in various cultural events and activities.
- Act as the City's Tree Board for the Tree City USA requirements.
Board members have an expressed interest and/or experience in landscape design and architecture, beautification projects, youth and/or senior citizen programs, recreation activities, culture and the arts. Current Board Members: Amit Bloom, Ruthe Cohen, Jonathan P. Evans, Patricia Frank, Julie Israel, Melvin I. Taks, Vice Chair Evie Hernandez and Chair Gary Pyott. The creation of this board exemplifies the City Commission's commitment to citizen involvement in their government.
Traffic Advisory Board
The City Commission adopted Ordinance No. 2005-09 which provided for the establishment of a Traffic Advisory Board.
The Board consists of seven residents who are appointed by the Mayor and City Commission. The Board was created to provide recommendations to the City Commission and City Manager regarding traffic issues.
The following matters are within the advisory jurisdiction of the Board:
- Assist in the study and formulation of motor vehicle traffic mitigation and traffic management programs.
- Provide specific recommendations on traffic flow improvements.
- Encourage and facilitate opportunities for City residents and businesses to participate in the work of the Board.
- Provide specific recommendations to address traffic issues that may be governed by or under the jurisdiction of the State or County agencies.
- Other motor vehicle traffic matters assigned by the City Commission and City Manager.
- The Board, either through its chairperson or the City Manager, shall report to the City Commission every other month on their progress.
