Evacuation
The Aventura Police Department works with the Miami-Dade County Office of Emergency Management in hurricane preparations.
If you are going to evacuate, plan in advance and leave early. By the time you find out for certain that a hurricane is going to hit your area, it is probably too late to leave.
Evacuation Routes:
From Biscayne Boulevard, head west on either Ives Dairy Road or Miami Gardens Drive.
If traffic is heavy at these intersections, head north on Biscayne Blvd. to Hallandale Beach Blvd. or Pembroke Road and then head west to I-95.
Shelters should be used as a last resort. It is preferable that you plan to seek shelter with family or friends, or at a hotel or motel that is well inland.
Shelters:
- Should an evacuation be ordered for the Aventura area, the most likely shelters would be located at:
- North Miami Beach Senior High School, 1247 NE 167th St. in North Miami Beach
- Michael Krop Senior High School, 1410 NE County Line Road, which is just west of I-95 on the south side of the Broward County Line.
- Stay tuned to the local media to find out what shelters are opening and when. ALL SHELTERS MAY NOT OPEN AT THE SAME TIME. Pets are not permitted in shelters.
Special Needs:
- Persons with special needs must register with Miami-Dade County Office of Emergency Management in advance.
- You may request a registration form by calling 305-513-7700 or the Aventura Police Department.
- Persons who use this registry will be assigned a shelter according to their needs.
