Intersection Saftey Camera Program

Stopping at a Red Light Keeps Aventura Streets Safer

red traffic light closeupNot stopping at red lights is a dangerous and costly problem on Aventura streets and across the country. Aventura's Intersection Safety Camera Program is designed to reduce the number of violations, crashes and injuries caused by red-light runners. The objective is to change drivers' behavior, making the community safe as more and more drivers obey the traffic signals and stop on red. As of July 1, 2010, the program changed due to the new State law taking effect.

What is an Intersection Safety Violation?

red light camera imageA violation occurs when a motorist enters an intersection after the traffic signal has turned red. Motorists already in the intersection when the signal changes to red, waiting to turn for example, are not considered violators.

What to do if you receive a Notice of Violation:

1. View the violation

Log onto www.violationinfo.com by entering your Notice number and PIN shown in the red box at the top right corner of your Notice to view photos and video of your violation.

2. Pay the fine within 30 days

The fine is $158 if paid within the first 30 days.

3. Submit an Affidavit Establishing Exemption within 30 days

You may submit an Affidavit Establishing Exemption if the driver was yielding to an emergency vehicle or funeral procession; the driver was directed through the intersection by police or firefighters; the vehicle was not driven by the registered owner. The owner must provide information of the person driving or a copy of the police report if it was stolen. If payment or an affidavit is not received within 30 days, a Uniform Traffic Citation will be issued. Once a UTC is issued, the fine increases to $277 and payments can only be accepted by the Clerk of Courts. If found guilty, there is a minimum fine of $277 plus additional court costs. Filing a false affidavit is a misdemeanor and could result in arrest.
