Community-Oriented Policing
is a collaborative effort between residents, business community, and the Police Department to address crime and safety issues, including traffic and emergency management, in order to work together toward common goals. The philosophy recognizes a partnership between the Police Department and the Community in order to identify strategies and seek solutions to problems in order to maintain the quality of life Aventura residents have come to enjoy. Under this philosophy of policing, productive relationships within the Community have been culminated thereby producing reduced levels of crime and greater job satisfaction for law enforcement officers.

Crime Prevention Unit
The Crime Prevention Unit supports a proactive approach to crime-related problems by supplying programs geared to both adults and children. Through both individual and group contact, the Crime Prevention Unit provides complimentary residential and business security surveys, as well as seminars and workshops to bring awareness to those in the community of methods to secure person and property. Other duties which fall under the auspices of the Crime Prevention Division include the organizing of the "National Night Out", "Red Ribbon Week", special Kid-Print forums, and Neighborhood Crime Watch Groups.
Crime Scene Investigations
Crime Scene Investigations is staffed by two highly trained and capable crime scene technicians. They provide mobile crime lab services at major and minor crime scenes by photography, processing for latent fingerprints and collection and preserving evidence. Crime scene technicians perform gunpowder residue tests and plaster cast impression molds. They process bodies of the deceased for trace evidence. Technicians fingerprint living and deceased persons for identification. Each case is, regardless of the perceived complexity, investigated objectively, methodically and as thoroughly as possible. Technicians also testify in court to their findings and methods in criminal and civil cases.
Detective Bureau
The Detective Bureau is responsible for follow-up investigations and case preparation involving homicides, aggravated assaults, robberies, forgeries, auto thefts and fugitive apprehensions. This unit is comprised of a Sergeant and five detectives under the supervision of the Investigative Services Captain. During the course of the year, members from Uniform Patrol have the opportunity to work with the Detective Bureau. This rotating service allows a member from Uniform Patrol to be able to better understand the full scope of the process involved from apprehension through investigation and conviction.
Dive Team
The Aventura Police Department's Dive Team was created at the direction of the Chief of Police, is comprised of a five-man team, and is responsible for recovering any items submerged in the waterways surrounding the City. The primary goal of the
dive team is to act as a recovery unit and on occasions to respond to rescue requests from the City of Aventura Police Department, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and any other agency requesting dive team assistance.
