Street Crimes Unit
The Street Crimes Unit is composed of a supervisor and three officers, and it is responsible for covert operations through the City of Aventura. They specifically identify areas of concern and deploy as directed by the Commander of the Patrol Division.
The primary goal of the Street Crimes unit is to utilize the information provided by the Criminal Intelligence Officer who targets specific times and days those crimes are occurring, and through covert operations preventing these crimes from happening. This unit also assists with dignitary protection details for high ranking officials who visit our City.
SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) Unit
The Aventura Police Department currently has a ten-man SWAT Unit and Command vehicle to handle those tactical operations which may be outside the scope of normal patrol activities. Of those members, there is a SWAT medic, one sniper, and two team leaders. A K9 unit is designated to assist the Unit with barricaded subjects. Each team member undergoes an initial two-week training school which is both physically and mentally demanding before being assigned to the team. Once assigned to the team, the members train on a monthly basis to hone their skills with weapons and tactics. The Aventura Police Department is a multi-agency SWAT Unit which works in conjunction with the North Miami Beach Police Department's Special Response Team.
