City Update: Coronavirus COVID-19

March 13, 2020 - Coronavirus and the City of Aventura’s Response

Announcing closures and program cancellations.

The City of Aventura is monitoring the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and encourages Aventura residents to do the same as well as to follow the guidance of health authorities. The safety and health of the Aventura community is important, and the City will take necessary steps to ensure its safety. 


In order to keep the community informed regarding operations and services, news releases like this one will be issued as necessary. A dedicated webpage has been established on the City’s website at with resources and pertinent information like this news release. Social media will also be used to relay information.

Operational Statuses: 

Effective today, only the following facilities and programs will be closed and canceled until further notice:

  • All City parks (Arthur Snyder Park, Founders Park, Waterways Park, Waterways Dog Park, Peace Park, and Veterans Park) will be closed starting today at 6:00 p.m.
  • The Aventura Community Recreation Center will be closed starting today at 6:00 p.m. Regular Aventura programs at the Center remain scheduled thru today only.
  • All City programs including the upcoming Spring Camp are canceled. 
  • The Aventura Arts & Cultural Center will suspend all performances starting today through April 12.
  • Aventura City of Excellence School and Don Soffer Aventura High School follow the decisions made by Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) regarding the school closures starting March 16.

If required, the City of Aventura will formally announce additional closures, suspended operations, and/or canceled events and programs in succeeding news releases and on the website. The City will evaluate all closures to determine when it will be appropriate to reopen.
